Whether a rugby player is a professional or an amateur, there is little worse than sustaining an injury that puts you out of the game for a few matches, or even worse, your whole career. Because of the nature of the sport, being a fast, high-impact game played by tough players, injuries are inevitable, especially concussions, fractured collar bones, and ligament tears.

Rugby injuries occur about 3 times as often as soccer and football injuries, mostly by youth and older adults. More injuries happen during the matches themselves, but a significant amount occur during training as well. This means you need to be aware of yourself and what is going on around you at all times.

Although it is nearly impossible to prevent these types of injuries without destroying the game itself, there are a few things that can be done to help prevent them. One of the most effective is to exercise the areas of the body that are prone to injury, and being aware of where these relatively vulnerable areas are.

Sprained and strained ankles are a very common injury, and one that is easier to prevent with the use of ankle braces, which are designed to support your ankle and give it some extra protection.

In addition to this, it is important to always have good equipment that fits well and does its job. Also, a well-maintained playing field is vital for players, as debris and spectators can also be a cause of injury. In the end, though, injury prevention doesn’t really fall into the hands of any specific individual. It is the responsibility of everyone, from the coaches to the players to the referees. No, rugby injuries are not really avoidable, but with everyone working together, they can be cut down a significant amount.
